Recipe 16: Orange-Lemon Ice Cream

Hi everyone...long time no post, I know! This is a simple little recipe that's been in my family forever--not a traditional creamy ice cream but to me at least so good and the taste of summer! My mom used to make this for birthday parties and usually on the 4th of July too. I don't think you have to have an ice cream maker to do it (if you don't you could probably freeze it on sheets and then scrape it up later)...but an ice cream maker probably would make it easier! Anyway, hope everyone is doing well and HAPPY 4th!

Oh...pretty bare bones instructions here...no idea how many servings (I'll ask my mom though)--basically just mix everything together and freeze!

Orange-Lemon Ice Cream

3 cups milk
2 cups sugar
Juice of 3 lemons
Juice of 2 oranges
Zest of 2 lemons
1 cup heavy cream

Hi Kath hope all is well with you and your little one.
I will have to dig my ice crean churn out for this. I used to use it all the time but its good to have a reason to get it out again especially as summer is here. But you wouldnt know it from the weather we are having, its shocking.
Your lemon loaf looks delicious by the way.

I just bought a new ice cream maker a few weeks ago and have been having great fun with it. Have made a handful of fresh fruit sorbets and a delicious vanilla bean ice cream for a peach cobbler. This orange-lemon ice cream sounds delicious and very summery. Can't wait to try it. A friend in another cooking group told me that you can put the ice cream contents in a plastic zip lock bag then put that bag in a bigger bag filled with ice and salt. Shake for ten minutes and voila you have ice cream. I think I'll try that method with this since I'm in SF for a month without my kitchen things. Miss you all!

Love the Ziploc idea! Very resourceful! I'm actually thinking of just making popsicles with mine since we have some cute molds. We'll see...

The lemon loaf is highly recommended and would be really good with the ice cream. I love all things lemon! Can't decide whether it would be the place to try olive oil or not but the idea is sort of tempting. I'll post this olive oil cake recipe I came across...

Will also post this roast chicken salad recipe of Nigella's that I'm in love with--delish! If anyone has tried her Chicken with Tagliatelle from the Venetian Ghetto, this is the summer version of that...
